Had Pope Gregory XIII known that minimalism would be so fashionable in the future, the names of the twelve months of the year would all start by a different letter. This is not the case in any language I know of. In the English language for example, the months of March and May will always confuse us whenever we see “MA 1st” as the expiration date of our favourite snack. Most of us know what MA means, while others may not even care, but as striking as it sounds, the meaning of MA in the expiration date can be deduced even if we have never seen it before. Only one of the months March or May can be abbreviated MA, and without any additional information a person can figure out which one it is. Can you do it?
